Do you want to sell on Amazon and make money? Amazon is an amazing platform to sell on. They receive millions of visitors a month and sell many new and used items. Amazon has been around since 1994 and with 2-day shipping through Amazon Prime, customers are always eager to make a purchase.

Amazon is hands down, the go-to marketplace for millions of people.

This is a good reason why you should be selling there.

I started selling on Amazon in summer 2016. During my first 8 months of selling, I was able to earn a decent supplemental income working part-time hours. The money that I was able to earn from Amazon enabled me to pay for a vacation for 2 overseas, put a down payment on a house, and build an emergency fund. Friends and family ask me all the time if I think they should sell on Amazon. I always say the same thing: Selling on Amazon has been such a financial blessing to my family, that I encourage anyone that is interested in making additional money without working a ton of hours to give it a shot.

Why Should You Sell On Amazon?

Make Money Sellers are able to easily earn a part-time or full-time income selling on Amazon. I was able to sell over $19k in products my first 8 months using Amazon. Whether it is to supplement income, stay home with the kids, help fund college education, or be your own boss, there is no doubt that selling on Amazon is one of the best ways to do so.

Work Part-Time Too little time? Working part-time can be achieved easily without sacrificing income when selling on Amazon. I average about 7 hours a week. You can easily achieve this by working 1 hour a day.

Be Your Own Boss Tired of asking for vacation time off? Take control of how much you earn and how many hours you work by becoming your own boss.

While there are many reasons to sell on Amazon, those are just 3 of my favorite.

I know that many of you may be wanting to sell on Amazon but are confused on how to get started. This post will cover step-by-step how to sell on Amazon.

Let’s Create An Amazon Seller Account.

To create an account in Seller Central, go ahead and head over to Amazon.

Choose A Plan

Amazon offers 2 plans for sellers to choose from. The Individual Plan allows the seller to pay $0.99 for each item sold. This would be a good plan if you plan on selling less than 40 items a month. This is a great option if you would just like to get your feet wet and test the waters.

The Professional Plan (recommended) has a monthly subscription fee of $39.99. Sellers are able to sell an unlimited number of products for that one set fee. I chose the Professional Plan when I started and I highly recommend it. Once you get started selling, you will see how easy it is to sell over 40 items a month.
Fill out the information and create your account.

What Can I Sell On Amazon?

There are many categories that you can sell in on Amazon. However, some categories do require approval. Here are a few of my favorite categories to sell in.

  1. Books
  2. Toys & Games
  3. Tools & Home Improvement
  4. Home & Kitchen
  5. Home & Garden
  6. Outdoors

Search For Items to Sell

The easiest way to find products to sell is to download the free Amazon Seller app and start scanning items. When you scan an item it will display the rank, pricing, category, and pictures. If the item is restricted, it will show up as being so which means that you are not allowed to sell it. I exclusively used the Amazon Seller App the first 5 months of selling on Amazon. I have since been using OAXray to find inventory. It allows you to find and analyze inventory from the comfort of your home and it literally made sourcing for inventory efficient and easier. Sign up for OAXray here to get a free 7-day trial.

Merchant Fulfill vs FBA

Have you thought about how you will get the item to the customer? There are 2 options available to choose from.

Merchant Fulfill. Merchant Fulfill is when the seller packages and ships the item to the customer. The seller is responsible for any and all customer support, as well as handling any inquiries that the customer may have. Many sellers run their entire businesses by using MF only.

Fulfilled by Amazon. Fulfilled by Amazon or FBA, is when Amazon will package and ship the item to the customer, as well as provide any customer support. However, you do have to send the items with proper labeling to Amazons warehouse. It is important to remember that there are also storage fees involved with this option.

Earn Money

After you have listed your items and a customer has purchased them, you will receive money paid to your seller account.  As an Amazon seller, you will receive payouts every 2 weeks. It’s that simple! Now go repeat steps 4, 5 and 6 to continue to get paid and develop a steady stream of income.

Tip: Capitalize on the Holidays

Different holidays usually offer opportunities that sellers can use to their advantage. It is important to keep holidays in mind when trying to create a boost in sales. Here are a few holidays to look out for:

  • New Years
  • Valentines Day
  • Mothers Day
  • Fathers Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Back to School Season
  • Amazon Prime Day
  • Halloween
  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas

I hope that this tutorial was helpful in getting you started selling on Amazon!
